São Paulo crowd burns passenger bus to protest hit-and-run death

Police in Brazil say a crowd protesting the hit-and-run death of a 7-year-old girl has torched a passenger bus in an eastern district of São Paulo.

A police officer in the Sapopemba district said Wednesday that the protest started after the girl was struck by a car participating in a drag race. He said that one of the policemen who rushed to the scene was slightly injured when he was struck by a motorcycle during the protest.

The bus was empty when it was torched Tuesday and no one else was hurt.

The officer declined to be identified because he was not authorized to speak to the press.
