Authorities in Colombia say they have broken up a major sex-trafficking ring that forced underage boys and girls into prostitution.
The sting resulted in the arrest of 11 Colombians in three cities — Cartagena, Medellín and Armenia — and the rescue of 55 trafficking victims, one as young as 11. Colombia’s chief prosecutor’s office says some were allegedly drugged with ecstasy and cocaine and others sold to criminals as virgins.
Colombian officials acted in conjunction with U.S. law enforcement who arrested another individual in the United States who had traveled to Medellín to have sex and film himself with underage prostitutes.
All the victims are now in the care of Colombia’s child protection agency.
