Brazil to investigate Petrobras corruption charges

Brazil’s comptroller general’s office says it will investigate allegations that directors of state-owned oil company Petrobras accepted bribes from a Netherlands-based supplier of offshore oil vessels.

The comptroller’s office said on its website that the probe is aimed at finding out if SBM Offshore was awarded contracts by bribing some 20 Petrobras officials several years ago.

The federal police, Congress and the county’s audit court are also investigating allegations Petrobras was involved in a massive system of kickbacks benefiting some 50 politicians, most belonging to the ruling Workers Party.

Petrobras said it had no immediate comment.
