28 powerful photos from last night's protests for Ayotzinapa

Last night, thousands took to the streets in Mexico City to protest the disappearance of 43 students from a rural teachers college in Guerrero state and what many in Mexico view as the inadequate response from a corrupt government. The demonstrators in the Mexican capital, former student groups from major universities as well as workers and citizens from across the entire political and socioeconomic spectrum, were led by the parents of the disappeared students. The demonstrations were almost uniformly peaceful, with about 30 arrests reported, as protestors appeared to heed the families’ pleas for a peaceful march.

Mexico City’s marchers were joined by people in more than 100 cities across the country, as well as dozens around the world. Both professional photographers and amateurs with camera phones were on the scene, and they were able to capture some striking and powerful moments during the global call for justice.
