A Chilean man who was in Mexico studying for a doctorate and ended up jailed for participating in a protest march has returned home.
Laurence Maxwell was arrested with 10 others and charged with attempted murder for participating in a November 20 march held to demand justice for 43 college students believed killed after a confrontation with police in a southern city.
Maxwell has said he left for his safety. He returned to Chile on Tuesday.
Maxwell said he was hit and detained for no reason. He was held for nine days in a maximum security prison for what police called inciting riots after the march.
A judge last weekend ordered Maxwell and the 10 others released for lack of evidence.
