The University of Dundee has an international reputation which attracts top-class students and academics from all over the world – more than 100 countries are represented in the student community. Innovative – and often world-leading – research into a wide range of disciplines takes place at the University, with pioneering post-graduate programmes enabling graduates to move to the next level.

The School of Engineering, Physics and Mathematics (EPM) is dedicated to promoting academic excellence and preparing students for rewarding and successful careers. Graduates from the School are highly sought-after by leading employers; alumni have gone on to work for industry leaders across the globe. Engineering at EPM opens the door to a wide range of careers by mixing traditional core engineering principles with emerging technology.

Engineering excellence

The Civil Engineering Department is one of the top in the UK for Civil Engineering degrees; internationally, the department is currently ranked among the top 200 in the world by QS World Rankings. The Concrete Technology Unit (CTU) was established in 1989 and has grown into a world-class research Centre of Excellence. It is guided by an Advisory Committee of leading practitioners and is committed to carrying out research to the highest level. The department also includes Fluid Mechanics and Geotechincal Engineering research sub-groups

Electronic Engineering is another dynamic area. Staff have contributed much to the advancement of engineering on the international stage, with a strong electronics research presence in key technology fields such as renewable energy, biomedical engineering, nano-electronics and laser/wireless communications. Undergraduates have the chance to be involved in this research from their second year onwards.

Mechanical Engineering mixes traditional core engineering principles with emerging technologies to create truly innovative solutions. The department enters student teams in the Greenpower Corporate Challenge for electric racing cars and Mechanical Engineering students participate in Formula Student, Europe’s biggest student motorsport event.

A friendly, busy campus

Dundee’s lively campus is situated in the heart of Dundee, five minutes from the city’s premier retail, leisure, cultural and entertainment facilities. A recent £200m campus redevelopment programme means that students benefit from state-of-the-art teaching, accommodation and study facilities as well as extensive sporting facitlities and clubs, including the region’s largest gym, a swimming pool and much more.

Dundee itself is a centre for culture and is undergoing a big transformation thanks to the waterfront regeneration project. The majority of students live on or near the University campus situated next to Dundee’s cultural quarter, with the Dundee Rep theatre, Dundee Contemporary Arts, restaurants, galleries, bars, boutiques and craft shops a 5-minute walk away.

The University’s city centre location offers the best of all worlds – a compact, friendly campus with an unrivalled position in the heart of the city’s West End, with stunning views of the Tay and the north Fife coastline. Excellent road, rail and air services provide fast and efficient travel throughout the UK: London is less than 80 minutes away by air and Dundee is also within easy reach of three international airports offering regular flights to Europe and North America.
