TAFE Queensland Gold Coast is the largest public provider in Australia’s Gold Coast region, offering more than 300 courses to over 16,000 students annually across its five campuses. At TAFE Queensland’s modern English language preparation centre, students from around the world develop the skills necessary to continue in higher education, expand their career options or pursue other personal and professional opportunities.
TAFE Queensland English Language Centre offers the benefits of an internationally competitive education and training within a safe, attractive and culturally diverse environment. After completing their English studies, students can enter directly into formal certificate or diploma courses in a wide range of areas that help provide pathways to the country’s best universities. TAFE Queensland Gold Coast has relationships with many of Australia’s top universities, including Bond University, University of Southern Queensland, James Cook University and Queensland University of Technology.
Tailored for people from non-English speaking backgrounds, TAFE Queensland Gold Coast’s English courses build English literacy and numeracy skills across all levels. Within the language centre, students can enroll a variety of English language courses for Australian migrants and advanced level specialist English language courses for entry to higher education, study and work programs. The centre offers English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS), from beginner to advanced levels, to student visa, working holiday and visitor visa holders.
The centre also offers advanced courses in English for academic preparation, business, hospitality or nursing and health, for students who meet certain academic and testing requirements. Completion of these courses allows students with visas to enroll in certificate or diploma programs at TAFE Queensland Gold Coast without taking the IELTS exam.
Advanced English courses place a strong emphasis on employment preparation and career skills, such as resume writing, presentation skills, interview practice and intercultural communication. After completing these courses, TAFE Queensland students have an advantage over many other candidates in the international job market.
International students enjoy access to special services and programs at TAFE Queensland, including the International Student Centre and additional students services for career counseling and learning support. The International Student Centre aims to make the transition easier for foreign students, helping them settle into life on the Gold Coast and assisting them throughout their studies. Centre staff provide guidance and advice related to visas, contracts, banking, housing, insurance, major purchases like cars and resettlement, as well as offering referrals for additional services like child care, employment and transport.
