English Language Institute (ELI)
The English Language Institute at Missouri State University is a multi-faceted, accredited program that provides English Language learners with the skills for academic and career success. Through expert tuition and an extensive curriculum, ELI students develop proficiencies in researched writing, critical reading, oral presentation, listening strategies and group work dynamics; all skills that are crucial for success in an American university.
The ELI consists of 25-28 hours of classroom instruction per week in 8-week sessions that are offered five times per year. Classes are small and inclusive, with an average of nine students in every class, meaning every student can get one-to-one assistance should they need it. The faculty are dedicated professionals with overseas teaching experience and advanced degrees in TESOL.
All students of Missouri State’s ELI have access to the academic lecture series to advance their understanding of the English Language. The Institute also provides both social and cultural campus and community activities that students may use for additional language practice. ELI students may decide to live on campus, where they can reap all the benefits of being an MSU student.
No test scores are required for admission to Missouri State’s ELI, and completion of the exit level satisfies the English Language proficiency requirement for admission to MSU. The University also offers conditional university admission to academically qualified students. The programme is accredited through the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA).
