Tom Cruise in Colombia to shoot Pablo Escobar movie

American actor Tom Cruise has arrived in Colombia to begin shooting his latest movie based on the life of one-time drug kingpin Pablo Escobar.

Cruise arrived in Medellín, landing at the city’s Olaya Herrera airport, in a private plane from Jamaica.

“Safetypilot26” tweeted news of the actor’s arrival:

The actor will be in Colombia for approximately two weeks, while staying in Medellín.

In the movie, Cruise will play Barry Seal, real name Adler Berriman, an ex-CIA agent and cocaine addict who was once a pilot for Escobar.

Cruise will visit Escobar’s one time jail “El Catedral” – designed and run by the cartel leader.

He is also rumored to be planning to visit some of Medellín’s oldest neighborhoods, home to the city’s first contract killers, known as “sicarios.”

Pablo Escobar, known as the “King of Cocaine”, had an estimated $30 billion net worth during the height of his career in the early 1990s.

Medellín mayor, Aníbal Gaviria, was thrilled with the visit, adding “we hope that the city will become a Colombian and Latin American movie capital.”
