Chilean President Michelle Bachelet is facing the lowest popularity ratings of her political career, but she’s dismissing rumors that that she’ll resign.
Bachelet was once one of the most popular leaders in the world. Her approval rating has plunged to 22 percent.
Bachelet asked Chileans Wednesday to dismiss rumors that she will quit, saying it harms the country.
Bachelet ended her 2006-10 presidency with 84 percent approval. She took office again in March 2014.
Her government has struggled to fulfill ambitious reforms amid slowing economic growth and an influence-peddling scandal involving Bachelet’s family is one of the biggest drags on her popularity.
Prosecutors are investigating whether her son and his wife received privileged access to a loan to buy land they later sold at a profit.
