Manuel González crowned Miss Gay Venezuela

Tensions may be escalating in Venezuela over the run-up to the country’s December 6 elections, but the country’s flamboyant beauty pageant scene continues to flourish.

Venezuela’s LGBT community are no exception, celebrating in designer label sequin dresses, 30 centimeter high heels, colorful makeup and of course, huge fake breasts, as part of the country’s ninth edition of the Miss Gay Venezuela pageant.

Glitz and glamour

Some of the contestants even spent up to five hours getting ready for the competition. As in other pageants, Miss Gay Venezuela contestants includes and evening wear and swimsuit round. All participants have to be younger than 37-years-old and stand at least 1.7 meters tall.

Manuel González, a 24-year-old social media coordinator was the proud winner of this years contest, taking the much desired crown for Carabobo state.

“It’s a great achievement to be taking part in the ninth edition of this event, acting as image of such a large community across Latin America, even more so here in our country. The fact that so many straight people support us and cheer our transformation and transvestism makes me feel incredibly privileged to act as the spokesperson for this marvellous event,” González commented in an interview.

The most beautiful transvestite in Venezuela, as the slogan says (from the competition) is in the art of transformation. This boy, whose make up, high heels, wardrobe and wig has turned him into a goddess, for the time being,” Oscar Esquiboyer, a stylist and make up artist at the pageant added.

Venezuela has also won the much coveted Miss Universe crown a total of seven times, Telemundo reports.
