450 Mexican tamales confiscated at Los Angeles airport

Tamal, the corn mass meat dish wrapped in a leaf, is a popular meal choice across the Americas. You either love it or you hate it.

One Mexican passenger took their love of the dish even further, after being stopped at Los Angeles airport with some 450 tamales in their luggage.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection unit stopped the man after he lied as to whether he was transporting meat in his luggage.

“Although tamales are a popular tradition for Christmas parties, meat from unknown sources could transport serious diseases,” Anne Maricich, from the Los Angeles branch of the unit commented.

The passenger was fined $1,0000 with intent for commercial distribution.
