A drunk man threw his former partner’s puppy from the 7th floor of a condominium in Cusco, Peru.
Marco Fredy Leon, 35-years-old, went to his former girlfriend’s apartment in Cusco to persuade her to resume their relationship. Leon came from a house party and was reportedly drunk and violent. He also verbally abused former partner Johanna Aedo Valencia, to try to get her to come back.
Amid the ruckus, Valencia’s two-month-old puppy Simur came to her defense and attacked Leon, prompting the offender to throw the puppy through the window.
Simur died shortly after due to numerous injuries incurred from the fall.
“He deserves to be in jail. I do not understand how anyone could harm such a defenseless animal that can’t even defend itself. I will follow this case to the end,” Valencia said with tears in her eyes.
After being called by the neighbors, the police rushed to the scene but the animal was already pronounced dead and Leon has escaped.
Leon has previously assaulted Valencia back in August.
It has only been less than a month since Congress approved a law that makes animal abuse a crime and impose stricter punishments. Three years of jail time awaits criminals for abuse cases and five years.
Simur’s case is the first that ended with an animal’s death since the Law Against Animal Abuse has been passed. Leon may face five years in jail.
