Latin America wows at the Grammys

Ricky Martin, Natalia Lafourcade, Rubén Blades and Pitbull were all awarded Grammys during the 2016 non-televised version of the prestigious music ceremony.

Ricky Martin was awarded a golden gramophone in the best Latin pop album category for his latest work ‘A quien quiera escuchar’.

Mexico’s Natalia Lafourcade was awarded for her ‘Hasta la raíz’ album in the Latin rock category. Lafourcade will be sharing this accolade with rapper Pitbull. The artists beat Colombia’s Monsieur Periné and Bomba Estéreo, both of whom were nominated for their most recent albums, daily El Espectador reported.

Panama’s Rubén Blades was the overall winner in the tropical music category, beating Dominican Republic favorite Juan Luis Guerra.

Mexico’s Los Tigres Del Norte were also awarded for their album ‘Realidades’ but failed to show up to collect their prestigious prize.

Brazil’s Eliana Elías triumphed in the Latin jazz category for her recent release ‘Made in Brazil’.
