22 soldiers killed as plane crashes in Ecuadorean jungle

A plane crash in Ecuador’s remote Amazon region has resulted in tragedy, killing all of the 22 soldiers on board, President Rafael Correa tweeted.

The militiamen were completing a parachuting training course when the E206 plane crashed in the Pastaza province, according to Andes info.

“There were no survivors. 22 of our country’s soldiers have gone. Condolences and support to their families and our Air force. It’s a tragedy”. The mandate tweeted.

Defense minister Ricardo Patiño also tweeted his response to the crash.

“It is with regret that I inform a military plane has crashed while undertaking training close to Shell [province], resulting in fatalities. I am heading to the site now.”

Ecuadorean officials will complete a minute’s silence out of respect for the deceased.
